“Why do we have to be Conscious about our own Earth?” by Deepa VK

This presentation is mainly concentrated on the fact that there is growing evidence that the Planet’s capacity to sustain the growing human population is declining. Human health and the health of our planet are inextricably linked. Our civilisation depends up on human health, flourishing natural systems, and the stewardship of natural resources. When natural resources become degraded beyond the limit unprecedented in human history, both our health and our planet will be in danger. The concept Planetary Health provides a new multidisciplinary approach to understand the interconnections between environment and human health. By bringing different sets of knowledge together and apply them in policies, there are tremendous opportunities to fight against climate and environmental change at scale, we can make a significant contribution in the idea of Sustainable Development Goals. In this context, in this presentation my aim is to highlight the role of indigenous communities, especially their knowledge/practices through maintaining the balance of our ecology/environment and contribute to the idea of Sustainability.
